Former Major League pitcher Curt Schilling has made news recently by staunchly standing up for his teenage daughter.
When proud papa Schilling tweeted congratulations to his daughter for her acceptance to college, suddenly several “Twitter Trolls” started responding with vulgar, inappropriate comments, harassing his daughter. But Curt Schilling went into action, tracking down the “anonymous” users – who weren’t so anonymous after all – and letting them have it.
Thanks to Curt being a stand up and protective parent, these reprehensible bullies are now being dealt with appropriately. Any Dad with a daughter can relate to Schilling and applaud his reaction. Heck, any Dad of a son can too. Freedom of expression doesn’t mean freedom to cross any boundary.
This story is not just about making young men be accountable for posting crude and hurtful messages. This story underscores positive, protective parenting and the fierce loyalty a parent holds for their child. It is not about a Helicopter Parent or someone who believes their child can do no wrong. It’s about believing in your child and showing them that no one has the right to bully them or demean them. It’s about showing your daughter or son the loyalty, love, and respect that goes with your unconditional love for them.
Curt Schilling was a talented, tenacious, and gutsy Major League pitcher. It’s great to see he brings those same traits to parenting and the defense of his daughter.
Kudos Curt!
